IgM antibodies are the first type of antibodies to be produced by the immune system in response to an infection. Consequently, IgM detection assays have proven to be a valuable diagnostic tool in identifying primary infections.

However, IgM antibodies only comprise 5-10% of the total antibody population in the circulation. In order to accurately measure IgM, it is necessary to reduce assay interference caused by the more prevalent IgG antibodies.

Meridian’s purified goat anti-human IgG Fc fragment (GAH IgG Fc, Catalog # L15406G) is designed for the removal of human IgG and IgG/rheumatoid factor (RF) complexes from serum prior to testing for specific IgM antibodies via CLIA, ELISA, nephelometry or turbidometry. It is monospecific by immunelectrophoresis against normal human plasma and 2x concentrated normal human serum.  It is not cross-reactive with human IgM or IgA  or non-immunoglobin serum proteins.

Each laboratory should determine the optimum working titer for use in a particular application however, we recommend diluting 1:10 in PBS prior to adding to the patient sample. It should then be used in a ratio of 1:10 to patient sample and allow to incubate 5-30 minutes to absorb any IgG present in the sample.
