HSV Glycoprotein G (gG) Antigens - 5/23/2016

   MAY 2016

HSV Glycoprotein G (gG) Antigens
HSV-1 gG & HSV-2 gG antigens for type-specific diagnosis

The new generation of enzyme immunoassays for HSV-1 and HSV-2 are called glycoprotein G (gG)-based type-specific serologic assays. Glycoprotein G is an envelope protein and contains predominantly type-specific epitopes, unique to either HSV-1 or HSV-2. Antibodies to gG1 (elicited by HSV-1) or to gG2 (elicited by HSV-2) have proven to be valuable markers of infection. The antibodies to gG arise relatively late, first appearing 2-3 months after the infection in 60%-70% of newly diagnosed patients.

Meridian offers both native and recombinant HSV-1 gG and HSV-2 gG antigens which have been validated to work in various types of immunoassays.

HSV-1 gG

Recombinant (S. cerevisiae) antigen
• Represents amino terminal Met1-Asp190 and fused with superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD)

HSV-2 gG

Recombinant (S. cerevisiae) antigen
• Represents unique sequences not present in HSV-1

Native antigen
• Strain G produced in Vero cells
