Hepatitis B Serologic Testing - 10/10/2016

Hepatitis B Serologic Testing
Antigens and Antibodies for Commercial Development

Meridian has a large range of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) antibodies and antigens suitable for hepatitis serological assay development.

Serologic testing of HBV involves a panel of several HBV-specific markers and these markers help distinguish whether a patient is susceptible to a primary infection, immune as a result of a resolved infection, immune as a result of vaccination, acutely infected, or chronically infected. Please see detailed information including suitable products for assay development below:

HBV surface antigen (HBsAg)

The earliest indicator of acute Hepatitis B and frequently identifies infected people before symptoms appear. HBsAg is the most widely used diagnostic and blood screening Hepatitis B test worldwide.

Antibody pairs for ELISA and LF:
• C01465M / C01457M (specific for ad/ay subtype)
• C01458M / C01465M (specific for ad/ay subtype)
• C86303M / C86401M (reacts with several subtypes
  including ayw, ayr, adw, adrq)

Used to detect previous exposure to HBV or to establish vaccination status. Subtypes adw, ady, and adr are each found in different geographic regions of the world.

Antigens for ELISA:
• R86872 (recombinant adw subtype)
• R86870 (recombinant ayw subtype)
• R86783 (recombinant adr subtype)
• R01507 (native ad subtype)
• R01508 (native ay subtype)

Anti-HBV core antigen (HBcAg)

An assay used to detect acute, chronic, or resolved HBV infection. It may be used in pre-vaccination testing to determine previous exposure to an HBV infection.

Antigen for ELISA:
• VTI610 (recombinant)

HBV “e” antigen (HBeAg)

Primarily used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for chronic sufferers. Positive HBeAg indicate a high degree of infectivity as it correlates with a high level of viral replication.

Antibody pairs for ELISA:
• C01693M / C01692M *Also works in LF
• C01549M / C01548M

Used to diagnose and monitor the treatment of a chronic infection. Its presence suggests a low viral titer and a low degree of infectivity in persons with a chronic infection.

Antigens for ELISA:
• R65915 (recombinant)
• R18915 (recombinant)
