Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) is a widespread infectious pathogen of humans.  HSV infections may be accompanied by vesicular eruptions of the skin or mucous membranes.  Both HSV Types 1 and 2 can cause severe clinical diseases including keratoconjunctivitis, meningitis, encephalitis, eczema herpeticum, genital herpes and generalized infection.  Research studies, utilizing native or recombinant HSV antigens along with HSV antibodies, are focused on understanding this infectious agent and its relationship to other diseases.
