OEM Concepts is a large-volume producer of monoclonal antibodies that are critical components of commercial diagnostic products used in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and in the monitoring of human protein levels in metabolic disorders, pregnancy, and cardiac disease. OEM Concepts adds custom ascites manufacturing, in-vitro monoclonal production, and purification processing capabilities to Meridian’s customer base of major diagnostic companies.

Viral Antigens is recognized as a leading manufacturer of viral proteins and critical assay reagents for the major diagnostic companies in the industry. Many of the viral proteins are custom-developed antigens that are utilized in infectious disease diagnostic assays. In June 2005, a new Rubella patent was awarded for improved methods for detection of anti-rubella IgM antibodies in commercial diagnostic products, utilized to test blood samples for the presence of rubella antibodies. Several new viral antigens are in development for commercialization in 2007.

Meridian Biologics serves as an enabling technology provider for process development and pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing of biologicals used in new drugs and vaccines. Meridian’s protein production facility is designed to support the manufacturing requirements for pre-clinical, Phase I, and Phase II clinical trials. In July 2005 Meridian was awarded the exclusive global license for the recombinant Parvovirus B19 vaccine technology from the National Institutes of Health. In 2006 Meridian completed the production of the Parvovirus B19 vaccine materials for the National Institutes of Health Phase I clinical trial. In 2007, Meridian completed manufacturing of a clinical infectious inoculum of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for human clinical trials.
